Remington model 11 20ga refurbished

Bought this old Remington model 11 in 20ga for $300 delivered... It was missing some screws and parts $40 would replace. I took it down and scrubbed it and cleaned it and lubricated it. It was working pretty well, but Ahhh, it looked so ugly.
The recoil pad was hard as a brick, and the action was brown, the barrel blue, but spotted. I had repaired the gun, the missing parts but it called out to me to be returned to an earlier time of it's life. So I removed and discarded the recoil pad and plugged the holes in the stock so that a new pad could be installed and would be securely mounted. Now at least the new pad would stand a chance of looking half way decent. Then I replaced the missing pins that keep the forend from twisting by inserting some wood dowels, custom fit to the forend. These mated with holes in the receiver I also repaired the forend where the magazine tube cap screws down. The plunger and spring were missing. This made the cap stay nice and tight. I spent some time degreasing the stock and cleaned it as much as possible. But recheckering was something I would leave for another time. Now it was time to talk to Millers Gun Shop in Jacksonville about rebluing the gun. The cost was $190 for reblue. And Mr. Miller is a fine craftsman who does a beautiful job.
It made this 96 year old Remington feel pretty nice. With a Mod Choke I shoot most of the targets in skeet. I love the feel of smooth blued steel in my hands. And some day I'll tackle the job of restoring the checkering. An oil finish is all that I'll give it. I'm proud to show it off at the skeet field.
